Pic of sipaliwini and question about cameras

Arklier Nov 07, 2003 02:49 AM

Here is a picture I've taken of my remaining sipaliwini. That's a dime next to him for comparison. I used my Cannon Powershot A50, but it's a 1.2 megapixel camera that I've had for about 3 years now, and well, time and technology has marched on. I need to get another camera to take pics with, and am looking for some recommendations. My budget is around $250 to $300. What's good that I can get in that range?

I would look for a used Sony f707, or f717, (both 5 megapixels) maybe on ebay or something. With the new Sony 828 on the way there should be a good number of them around. They maybe a little over $300, but worth the extra $$.

Here are a couple good sites:

You can see some more examples from a F707 on my site below, and a F717 on this site:

I'm a real big fan of the Nikon Coolpix camera line, they have great lenses for close ups. I have a 5700 that takes 5 megapixel images. Its goes for around $550. Took this pic this morning and scaled it down in photoshop, no sharpening or image editing at all.

It is a 4 megapixel, has a super macro mode for close-ups less than an inch away(dont need extra lenses), has some of the best reviews in its class, and you can get it for around 300 if you hunt for it....I got mine off ebay. I love it. I am attaching a pic i took with it. The pic was taken from 2 inches away. I printed it out at 8X10 and it looked almost as good as 35mm. At 4x6 I could not tell the difference.
