Cypress Mulch Mix Substrate question

kenny56847 May 30, 2003 03:49 PM

Greetings, can anyone tell me about a mixture of cypress mulch, used for cage substrate? we purchased some at Walmart and I see now the bag says it is a mixture of different wood products mixed together. Seems we have heard Cedar can be toxic? It does smell like a cedar odor to this mixture, we are not using it, and needed to know if its safe or not? Please help, greatly appreciated. Thank You.

If it has any cedar in it you shouldn't use it....Cedar and pine (to a lesser degree than cedar) can be lethal.... I use cypress mulch for my snake.. but its just cypress...no other kind of wood in it.. I get mine at K-mart for like.. $3 for 3 ft cubic bag.
