frogger88 Nov 07, 2003 09:10 AM

What should i use to mount my plants to my background?? I thought about staples, but then i thought about them rusting and am kinda leary about using anything with a potential to rust. Any suggestions?!?

Hi,

I would suggest using fishing line because it is transperent. Also if you ar mounting broms they sometimes have a large root spike protruding from their side, if this is the case you can just drill/poke a hole in the background and shove it in. And of course you should wrap everything in moss untill it roods into the background.

I really don't think rust should be a big concern . . . it's just oxidized iron in a form more accessible by plants (because it is more readily dissolved in the water). In addition to what Alexander said, you want to make sure that you keep the moss you wrap around the bromeliads constantly moist. I tried the epiphitic mounting to take much longer than mounting in an orchid-bark type substrate because I just wasn't keeping the moss moist enough to promote root formation. Root formation really should start within 10 days.
