scubaqueen Nov 07, 2003 09:55 AM

I'm in the market for an incubator, but I'm not sure what I should buy. Can anyone help me?

Get a Hovabator, the thermal one not the turbofan modal. here is a link to where you can buy one.

Right now I have 2 different incubators going with beardie eggs in them. One is the Still-Air Hovabator #1602. It retails for $41.95. The other is a Still-Air Little Giant #9200. It retails for 39.95. Both are the same size, and both work on the same still air principle. They look VERY similar.

The difference is that the Hovabator has a "Snap Switch" thermostat, that can be unreliable, and needs replaced yearly. Mine is new this season and the temp fluctuates about 1 to 1-1/2 degrees.

The Little Giant on the other hand has an "Electronic Thermostat" that to me seems MUCH easier to control, and it only fluctuates about .2 to .3 degrees.

**Both incubators are kept in the same room (large walk-in closet), and the room tempreture is very stable/steady.

I think that both incubators will "get the job done" for you. The Hovabator has been around longer than the Little Giant, and has a better "name recognition" going for it, but in my experience, I REALLY like the Little Giant better.

I don't know where you live, but if there is a Feed/Farm store anywhere near you, they will carry both models, and you won't have to wait or pay for shipping. They carry them for chicken eggs, but they work great for reptile eggs. Heck, many larger pet stores carry them too.

where did you buy your digital thermometer?

I have the same one and got it at wal-mart. I really like it as it does the humidity too.
