You shouldn't be able to recieve a shock from it. I believe what you are feeling is the burning sensation created from the vibrations that the water passes on very well. Everything electrical is sealed. I don't beleive this chould kill a frog, most likely just give them a good reason to move. But, I guess you never know how a young frog will react. Many people use them uncovered and I haven't heard of a dead frog yet.

I would still cover it with some sort of mesh.

Hi
Below is a copy of a frognet message that I wrote a while ago. The ultrasonic transducers can kill your frogs. They can evaporate the water in a frogs body the same way that they evaporate water. These foggers also have a tendency to heat up the water to an amazingly hot temperature.
I thought I would share how I constructed a ultrasonic fogger. I placed the ultrasonic transducer in a glad ware container or a nalgine bottle and then drilled 3 holes, one for the electricity for the transducer, one for air in and one for air out. I then inserted aquarium airline tubing into the 2 holes and hooked one end up to a air pump (the type that fish people use to run under gravel filters). This pump pressurizes the container and because all the other ways for air to escape have been sealed by silicone the air must go out the tubing on the other end. The result of this project is a very fine, visible mist that floats out of tubing into the tank. I experimented with different tubing diameters and found that thinner was better because then the air pump can clear it when the condensation on the tube clogs.

OK, I will not argue as to whether to ultrasonic vibrations are able to kill a frog after a period of time as I'm sure they are quite strong compared to the volume of a frog, however I must note that death would most likely be due to the water temperature which can be kept moderate by running the humidifier on an intermittent timer. The humidifier can not 'evaporate' the water in a frog, it does not evaporate water at all. It simply propels small droplets of water off the surface of the pool. The effect on the frog is the same as the effect on your finger, it isn't a good feeling but there is no damage as long as you quickly move your finger.

Were you the person selling these fogger systems at Frogfest? I think it is a excelent design, and am planning on using one on my vivarium.

yes I was selling them at frogfest but unfortunatly I made no money because I was selling them at my cost!
Why?
Hi,
I thought that the price would go out of some people's reach if they went for over $50. At IAD I will try to make a profit if I can find the transducers for a bit cheaper.

If you have a better "mousetrap", you will sell them! If you are looking to do a "start-up" business then a few sold at cost can get you business by word of mouth.(free advertising) If you can get your materials at a wholesale price that would be best.
Good luck! I was just curious.
I put my foggers in plastic cups that i designed. I then fill the cup with water. I put a slanted scren top on the top of the cup so that the frogs cannot get into the water. Be careful when using foggers because the water that it is in will get hot, my water will get about 100 degrees
