PowerSun Bulb Help!

JLJ2018 Nov 07, 2003 12:32 PM

I really want to use one of these bulbs, but no one around here carries them. Where do you guys recommend buying herp supplies online? I need to get one of these, some supplements, and another heat source for my ball python. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I'm currently using a 75 watt regular incandescent bulb for my heat source for my beardie and my temps are good. What wattage would those of you that have experience with PowerSuns recommend getting for this switch? Thanks!

WWW.Reptiledirect.com has them for the best prices I've found, and they should carry the other supplies you need as well. Most MVB come in only two sizes 100watt or 160watt. If your using a 75 watt incandescent bulb now. I would get the 100 watt flood Powersun, and adjust the hight of the bulb or the basking spot as needed to get your temps right.

Thanks! These should fit in a regular reflector, right? I bought a Zoomed basking spot lamp and it wouldn't go in my reflector. Seemed like the threads were too long for the receptacle.

HHmm never had a problem with the threads not fitting in before with any bulbs. If your going to use a MVB I suggest getting a porcelain fixture with a 10 inch reflector dome. Actually Zoomed also recommends this with the use of the Powersuns. The 10 inch dome allows the bulb to fit inside the dome fully so you can rest them on the screen top. With a 8.5 inch dome the bulb hangs out a bit and will touch the screen which will shorten the life of the bulb, and can be dangerous as the screen will get awfully hot to the touch. Copy and past the url these are the domes I'm talking about and reptile direct has them for $9.95. http://www.reptiledirect.com/product.asp?0=248&1=280&3=20

Thanks for your help! I've never had trouble with one fitting either. I tried for 20 minutes to get it in before giving up. I'll get another dome with the PowerSun. Thanks again.
