I have a question for you you said that you took the Uro to Doug Dix so I assume your in Washington somewhere. I would like to chat with you a bit on how your keeping the humidity down on your tanks and what your doing for heat in your tanks.Just kick some ideas around. I too am in Washington and I am having some trouble. Temps are ok but all on the cooler side. Cool side stays about 70-72 degrees and the warm is maxing out at about 100-110 how are your tank temps and are you getting them up higher than mine with this cool weather? If so what are you using??? Thnaks in advance for the help!

Hello Kirsten,

Yeah, I'm in the Salem, OR area. I drove over 5 hours to Doug's. Have you seen his place yet? It's amazing. I had a blast - it was well worth the drive.

I have to have 2 bulbs on my large cage to get the temps up to 115 - 118. I have a 100 watt Powersun and some kind of 100 watt flood bulb that I got from Walmart for less than $5. They are both aimed at the same basking rock. The rocks surface is around 115 degrees. The problem is that I have a long 55 gallon tank that has no glass lid, so the heat easily escapes into the room. I took a humidity reading the other day and it was less than 40 percent, so humidity isn't a problem for me.

I would definately get a hotter bulb or maybe just add a 50 or 60 watt to what you've already got that will make all the difference in the world. You just have to play around with the bulbs until you get it right. Boy oh boy, having a TempGun from Proexotics is really coming in handy right now.

Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'd be happy to help. Have a good weekend.

Veronica

Thanks for the advice going to get another bulb today and a piece of slate. We will see what that does. I too have a glass tank and only have half the top covered, because I can't seem to find a screen that will fit the other side. But then again this is a temporary tank. Hubby is going to build the new tank as soon as we get a house. Thanks for the help!

you can always do what i did,i got a 125watt heat flood bulb from home depot. The thing is huge and is made for warming plants outside during cold nights,i put my UVB fixure on a mounted piece of wood and attached the light fixture to this wood piece so its about a foot from him.i have a pic down in this thread a few post down that shows my cage and lights.its a 3foot square cage with no top but the room is heated at all times and keep a solid 80-85f in it.his hot spot is 130F with a cool side of about 80-85F and so far has been working out great.just take a piece of wood like i did and hang the light fixture from it and your temps should raise quite a bit.

hope you get things all worked out for you.
