I have this happen once every year or 2------- I have had lizards returned that were refusing to touch a bite and, in every case, they were eating within 10 seconds of being put back in the pen. I realize my big pen creates lizards that are basically "in the wild" but used to humans (me). It is nice to see I am not alone!!! ( not really nice- just an expression). I guess these guys get used to a setting- and resent shipping or new housing in many cases. I also think theydo beter when kept in pairs or trios ( given they have spacious housing). A lone chuck just don't act very happy & content.
I have to also think thatcovering the sides of new housing and avoid as much handling as possible is important until they get settled in.

Good Luck

A lot of times you break that habit and it takes them time to recover. How long has the person had him? I noticed a lot of times they will take a month or more to adjust. Important to keep them hydrated when babies like that. Make sure he mist the cage at least once a day. They will lap plenty of water off the rocks. Do you know the person--Is the cage properly set up?

It took my Chuck about a week to start eating after I got her. Then she only ate a little every other day or so for about a month. I was a bit worried too, but she did start eating and growing. This was a tank that was all set up to proper specifications well in advance of me getting her, and she was about 9 months when she arrived. I had plenty of hiding spots and had covered 3 sides of the tank with brown construction paper.
