Morph/Genetics question for all "expierenced"....

LizardLuva Nov 07, 2003 07:04 PM

I am eventually become a leopard gecko breeder, and have a few genetics and morph questions. I defintely like Albinos,(most likely trempers), and like the really colorful high yellow albinos. I wanted to know if the only way to make this is to get two high-yellows and breed them? Also i read about a "Carrot-Tail" Albino? How are you supposed to breed this? I know its a line bred trait, but how do you get it in an Albino? Thanks

To introduce traits such as tangerine and carrot tail into the albino lines breeders make repeated crosses of these leos with albinos. They then breed the most attractive albino hets produced to one another. 1/4th of the offspring of these het crosses will be albino. The most attractive albinos can be bred to one another to refine the trait or can be bred to another carrot tail etc to produce even better looking hets ...

The above is not necessarily written in stone, but this is the general methodology used to introduce selectively bred traits into morphs.
