Blue Spot Timor

Piglet106 Nov 07, 2003 07:25 PM

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while, but I have some questions regarding my blue spot timor....I need some hints or suggestions on how to get him to eat better or what to feed him other than crickets and superworms....We have had him for about 8 months or so, and he just doesn't seem to be growing...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....Can you refresh my memory and such on temperatures too since there isn't too much information out there on them.....Thanks

Cheryl

Have you tried dead mice? Mine can eat three fuzzies every two or three days. Your basking temp can be very very warm (120F) as long as you also give him a cool spot.

get the Savannah Monitor book by Ravi and Dan Bennett. it contains the most up to date printed monitor literature available.

it covers feeding, heating, all your concerns for your Timor, and it is absolutely applicable. if you get a good book, you won't "forget" the basics, you will have an easy reference.

the book is $13, it is a no brainer for any monitor keeper's collection, but you would be surprised how many folks have no brain : )

"Get a book."

Your starting to sound like me.

Next thing you know, you'll be telling people to READ the books, and to think for themselves!

Dirt deep enough to burrow in, a temp gradient from a basking spot 165 degrees f down to about 70 degrees air temp on the other end, try 65-85%humidity, try adding alot of places to hide where its very difficult to ever see the animal (thats what they like), my timor (now my friends) loves to hide even though hes been around people, dogs, and plenty of other reptiles almost 24/7. Try the Daniel Bennett Savannah book its all about the basics, and read it a few times, great book of info.

Thanks for all the help...appreciate it....We have tried EVERYTHING in the food department, I will check his basking spots again and see what we have......and maybe we can deepen his substrate....Thanks again..

Mine burrows like a mole, so he'll probably enjoy that a lot.
