Super worms and chams..

sweetgurrl22 Nov 08, 2003 12:02 AM

Is it ok to feed superworms as a staple to a veild? I read that they have less chitin than mealworms and I can also gutload them with broccoli and carrots. My veiled has been very picky lately and doesn't seem interested in his crix anymore, I know he's hungry because if I put a mealworn in there he'll eat that and other things like wax worms, just not the crix.

I wouldn't go with supers as a staple. Find a small source of roaches or silkworms and use them for about a month with no crickets. You can still offer some wax or superworms, but not for the complete diet. Crix, silkworms or roaches are probably the only things that should be used daily. After using something else for about a month or so, the chameleon will gain interest again in crickets and usually start eating them. If you're making an order to get the roaches or silkies, throw in some houseflies or hornworms also.
