Weird behavior in imitator

MdkSniper Nov 08, 2003 08:48 AM

Ok, I was checking out my imitator tank this morning and I noticed that my sub-adult imitator was on its back and it was trying to turn over. It did after a few times. I also noticed that it rubs its head with its front legs every so often and opens its mouth over and over again. What's up with this frog?

That is odd, but I can say that from what I have seen of my imitators they are strange, so far the oddest personality of any of my frogs. Maybe he had an itch?

Mdk,
How's it been going? Sounds to me like it was shedding it's skin.I watched on of my monkey frogs doing the same thing except not turning on it's back. I haven't ever caught any of my dartfrogs doing it but I know they shed and eat their shed skin.I'd keep an eye on it but that is what I think is going on.
Take care,
Mark W.

Actually, I think it fell on its back, because my imitator always fall when they get startled. I'm not worried about the sub adult imitator that I have now. It's the female that I'm worried about. I haven't seen it in two days, and I just picked up a few things in the tank and still couldn't find her. I hope she turns up in a log or something. Mark, how do you get into the #dartfrogs channel now? Do you guys still do there?

One other thing, do you think it will be alright If I put my brazilian cobalt tinc in my imitator tank for 2 days while I redo his tank?

I would not, maybe just setup a small tank for the other.

Don't do it. Presuming that your tinc is an adult, he might try to eat them, or the much bigger frog could stress them out. Go out to Wal-Mart, Fred Meyers, or whatever, and get a small plastic bin by Rubbermaid or Sterilite, put some wet paper towels or dirt from his tank in the bottom, and keep him in there with some dead leaves or a plant from his tank. He should be fine for a few days.

MDK,
I'm not sure, I haven't been in the chatroom for quite some time.I chat with some of the "old gang" on MSN Messenger.I'd would be nice to get back on there again,it was fun while it lasted.

My D. auratus did not flip on his back, but did exhibit the gag&rub behavior recently when it was shedding its skin...I knew it was this, as it hopped through the water dish and left a piece of skin floating there...seemed like the shedding was all over in a day or so.
