C. hoehnelii temp. ???

Thouston Nov 08, 2003 12:52 PM

Hello,

I was curious as to the temperature limits that C. hoehnelii can withstand. Please don't tell me anything from a book or adcham etc... I've read that. I would like to know from someone who has successfully kept this species first-hand.

My concern is cooling them enough at night. Our building doesn't get any warmer or colder than 72F. We would like to put them on display but I am worried that the night time temp of 72 won't become low enough for this species.

Does anyone have any tips on cooling them down and has anyone kept them successfully by giving them room temperature at night?

Thanks,

T.C.

We keep ours outside just about year round here in Southern CA. I looked at the records for our local area and during the summer the night time lows are in the high 60's. So I don't think 72 would be out of the question. The reall trick I've found with the montane species (quads, hoes, fischers and jacksons) is to provide a LOT of vegetation in the enclosure and plenty of water during the day.

Hope this helps,
