Is it possible to keep 2 male leos in a cage together as long as there is not a female present? or will they still fight?

I know people who thought they had a pair and when they were raised they were in fact 2 males. They had never fought. I think the female is the stimulus, or the smell at least. I don't think it would work if you took 2 mature males and put them together. I also heard of keeping male cresteds together, as long as a female is not present. Once you add a female, all hell breaks loose. Regardless, If you are not prepared for the worst, it is best not to try.
