"New" False Water Cobras

Wes Nov 08, 2003 07:33 PM

Hi everyone,

I suppose these guys are still new even though I've had them for nearly a month now. However, because of a hectic schedule and a saddening event I haven't been able to post of here about the best colubrids known to man. Anyway I received an unrelated pair of young (both hatched during the last week of July) FWCs from Bill at the Great Valley Serpentarium. Both are fairly docile now, however, both of them still hood a bit (the male more than the female). The first week or so the male was quite defensive in his cage (hooding and striking with wide open mouth), but now he's fine. Once out of the cage both are inquisitive little angels. They're currently being housed together in a 20 gallon long (I know it won't last long...they'll eventually be housed in a 6' vision). Of course they're fed in a different container seperately. Once I get the money to ship out my other snakes, these will be the only serpents in the home. It doesn't bother me one bit since they're so freakin' cool. The male is affectionately named Arion (after Arion Salazar, the bassist, of the great Third Eye Blind) and the female is named Zoe. Since these will be the only animals, besides my ferret, I'll need to devote my time to I don't mind keeping the cage somewhat more natural and using cypress for the substrate. Besides that they have several large pieces of cork bark and a large water bowl. The cage is heated with a ceramic heater which will soon be controlled by a thermostat ordered quite some time ago. That's about all for now. This post and the next few will contain some photos showcasing my little guys.

Regards,
Wes

Arion and Zoe showing a little bit of hood. No it's not as wide as their hoods can get, but a cool picture regardless.

Arion doing a bit of the same. Thanks a lot for taking the time to look at my FWCs.

Wes
