Choosing the cold end

moyni Nov 09, 2003 04:53 AM

My 2 corns are in an unheated spare bedroom (it's around 65f). They have a heat mat under one end of the fish tank they're in, and they've a choice of hides at that end even with some flat stones to transfer some heat through the substrate. But they're choosing to curl up in a corner of the cold end. I thought they liked to keep warm, so why are they choosing to be cold.

I'm just curious, so thanks for any responses.

Do they not even use the warm end after they eat?

Most of my snakes will choose the cool end to hang out at, but after being fed move over to the heat to better digest the meal.

As long as they are moving back and forth you should have no problem.

If they aren't eating good, or they aren't moving to the warm side after a meal, you may want to consider removing the heat and brumating them for the winter.
