tongue turning gray!!??

HerpGuy#1 Nov 09, 2003 11:43 AM

When I took Queen out of her cage this morning, I noticed her tongue has a vague grayness on the whole tongue but a lighter gray at the tip. Her tongue has always been solid black. I've never seen this before and don't know what to make of it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Carpet toungues are actually cobalt blue for the most part not black. The grey tinge is more than likely natural. As long as the mouth is a fleshy pink and she doesn't refuse to eat for an unusual amount of time. She's more than likely ok.

I see her mouth when she yawns, it is definitely not a fleshy pink. It's more of a dull purple. I hope this isn't anything to worry about.

No purple hue is normal in youngsters. Sorry its been awhile since I looked in my snakes mouth. As she grows her mouth should lighten.

Mouth infections are inflames red, off-white/yellow, and or can have a cheesey white material inside the mouth. Often times herps go off of food too.
