Yellow

Ophidiophile Nov 09, 2003 04:13 PM

The obsoleta complex had never done much for me but a little over a year ago I decided to take the plunge. It was between hypo Everglades, white-sided Everglades, and amelanistic Yellows and I finally decided to get the yellows (did I choose correctly? ). Right now I have 2.2. One pair is from Dwight Good, one female is from a local breeder in Colorado, and the male pictured is a yearling from a guy in Florida. He is from a Bob Fengya amel, derived from the original Tampa stock, outcrossed to wild caught Jacksonville yellows to produce heterozygous animals, which were then recrossed. The Jacksonville yellows are rather "dirty" yellows that have both striping and retention of blotches into adulthood and increased melanin as they age. I think they have produced an interesting amel.

you picked some great breeders to get your stock. That amel yellow is awesome. Here's one of my normal yellows (if there is a normal obsoleta. LOL). Looks like you ae getting ahooked on the obsoleta complex like I have. The obsoleta complex is a great species with alot of breeding and collecting history.

Talking about the obsoleta complex, it's amazing that when most people talk black rat snake, they seem to favor darker and/or almost all black. When people discuss yellow rat snakes, they lean towards lighter. I saw you picked up a yellow rat snake and an everglades. You're getting quite the collection going there. Nice yellow rat snake baby in the pic Brian. Good luck. I posted a pic of my Kentucky black rat snake above.

Yep I know what you mean. I have like rat snakes ever since I was a young kid. Used to catch "red rats" and black rats down on my grandmas farm in MO.
