Noticed something...

Do any of you have the Reptiles Magazine from July 1997? It's got a white cover with a nice big veiled on it. If so, flip to page 49 and look at the picture of the veiled on the bottom left. Doesn't it look like he's got a bad case of MBD? His legs are bowed and his casque looks funny. Ok, now flip to page 53 and look at that picture closely. See the big bump on the nose of that veiled??? Who's picking these pictures?

Two ideas. First, the year should tell you that "early" cham keepers didn't always notice MBD symptoms. 1997 is fairly ancient. Second, the editors who end up choosing pics for mags like this are often clueless about the animals themselves. I see glaring mistakes all the time. At least they got the right species! An example: the beautiful cham book "Masters of Disguise". I love this book but have hand-corrected many of the mistakes just to satisfy myself. There are many misidentified species even though the text and general info is good. The photos were by Art Wolfe who is a great photographer. Whoever did the final layout and captions was really uninformed. Often the author of an article has no say about the graphics or pics...the art director does.
