How can you tell when Rats are ready to go on there own.

Can someone please give me some info on when I can seperate the young from the mothers ( or can tell when they can be seperated)

When they are 4 weeks old.

pretty much when the babies are fully weaned, eating solid foods on their own. 4-5 weeks old is good. Any older you risk impregnation of the females by the brothers or sons. Sexes should be separated by this time as well.

Thanks for the responces. Do you have a rough estamite on size, fully haired ?
Reason I ask is because I did not keep records on the ones I have to tell how old they are.

hmm, don't remember the exact size of my two female rats when I bought them. They were just weaned. Deffinitely bigger than an adult mouse...Maybe about 100-150g in weight, 4-5 inch long minus tail.
