Breeding questions...

poisonfrog420 Nov 09, 2003 09:55 PM

Sorry about posting this when I am sure it has already been posted, but the searching system for these new forums sucks! You have to search all the forums instead of just this one.

Any way, if any one knows of an on-line article or website that has good info please post a link.

1. How long do you cool your dragons and at what temps? When you raise the temps do you do any thing else?

2. My second question is how many eggs are there per clutch? How many clutchs per season? How long between clutchs?

3.Can they be treated like leopard gecko eggs as far as temps and humidity or should I treat them more like frilled dragon eggs?

4. How long from laying to hatching?

5. How many babies do you keep per tank? What size is that tank?

6. How many crickets will a baby eat a day? What size do you order for hatchlings?

7. At what age/size do you sell your dragons?

8. What is the averge cost of maintaing the babies?

Thanks for your help, and if you know of a site where all of this is covered please post that.

1. How long do you cool your dragons and at what temps? When you raise the temps do you do any thing else? .... I let them decide and all I do is chnge the daylight hours with the natural cycle.

2. My second question is how many eggs are there per clutch? How many clutchs per season? How long between clutchs? ... Number of eggs per clutch varies with each dragon. Anywhere from 12 - 30 eggs. Number of clutches per season also varies.... some females can lay one clutch, others will lay 4 - 5 times. If your question is how long between clutches from one breeding, then average is 3 - 4 weeks.

3.Can they be treated like leopard gecko eggs as far as temps and humidity or should I treat them more like frilled dragon eggs? They need to be incubated at 83 - 84 degrees and humidity needs to be around 90%

4. How long from laying to hatching? Anywhere from 60 - 80 days

5.How many babies per tank? I keep a maximum of 10 babies per tub and the size is approx 34 x 17"

6. How many crickets will a baby eat a day? What size do you order for hatchlings? I don't feed crickets anymore, but when I ordered them I got the 1/4"

7. At what age/size do you sell your dragons? I do not sell any dragon less than 6 weeks old or a minimum of 6"

8. What is the averge cost of maintaing the babies? Never figured it out... can't help on this one

Hope some of those answers help

1. How long do you cool your dragons and at what temps? When you raise the temps do you do any thing else?
My beardies just coll themselves. When they wake up, they wake up. I keep them at about 70 degrees/ day and about 60 degrees/ night.

2. My second question is how many eggs are there per clutch? How many clutchs per season? How long between clutchs?
My female's first year, she layed 25- 27 eggs per clutch. Depends on when you place the male and female together.

3.Can they be treated like leopard gecko eggs as far as temps and humidity or should I treat them more like frilled dragon eggs?
I don't know about leopard gecko or frilled dragons eggs, but they need to be kept at about 70% humidity

4. How long from laying to hatching?
It takes about 60- 70 days between laying and hatching.

5. How many babies do you keep per tank? What size is that tank?
I keep between 1 and 10 in a 20 gallon as hatchlings then slowly segregate into smaller groups.

6. How many crickets will a baby eat a day? What size do you order for hatchlings?
Babies eat a lot of crickets a day. 7 babies can eat 1,000 crickets a week.

7. At what age/size do you sell your dragons?
I sell mine at 3 months, but it depends on what experience the new owner has had with dragons.

8. What is the averge cost of maintaing the babies?
The average cost of maintaining is way more than you get for selling. If you are trying to make money, don't breed them. Also, don't breed for color, breed for strength and hardiness.
