Aspen ????

craig k. Nov 09, 2003 11:46 PM

I am just curious where people that use aspen bedding are from and how much they pay. I use pine and pay $3.99 for a 8.5 cubic ft bale. Aspen is so expensive here in Michigan I have never even considered using it for rodents. (I think it is about $15 for a 4 cu ft bale) I use about 14 cu ft per week. Thanks for the responces. I pay about $6.89 CDN at Walmart for a 13.9 cu liters (1800 cu inches). I use about two and half bags every month...for 2 mice tubs and 2 rat tubs. (these are large tubs, over 100l each).

The kind I buy is made by Hartz. The website is www.hartz.com
Not sure if they do direct mail order but may be cheaper for you if Aspen is hard to find in your area.

For the shear volume of mice/rat cages y ou have, I would suggest making a deal with your local newspaper to take their shredded extra newspapers and paper row ends to use as bedding. Most send all this to be recycled but they may be willing to part with a dozen large bags full for you.
