New to milksnakes

khalliaar Nov 09, 2003 11:58 PM

I am new to milksnakes and I have a few questions. I wanted to get 2 but right now I don't really have room for 2 tanks. So.... Would it be alright to keep 2 of them together? If so, would it be ok to keep a male and a female together? I have a ball and I know that they should be kept separate, but if you really want to and you give them enough room, hides and you feed them separatly then it would be ok. What size tank (Dimensions) would I need for one or 2 snakes?
Thanks a lot.

Milk snakes are related to the king snake and both have cannibalistic tendencies. I have known people to successfully house 2 milk snakes together for quite awhile but they might have just got lucky. Why take the chance? I had the same problem as you, not enough space for multiple tanks. I had a 40 and a 60 gallon that I divided into 4 equal parts. Now I have 8 snakes with only 2 tanks. Here's a pic of one of my setups. Infact I just finished it tonight! The pieces of plexi-glass are removable by sliding it up and down for easy cleaning or expanding the tank. There held in place by "U" shaped guides siliconed to the side of the tank.
