Sick Leopard Gecko

gtownbb May 30, 2003 08:28 PM

I have two approxiamently 6 month old Leopard Geckos. When I came home this evening I found one of the Geckos unable to moe it's hind legs. It is abe to move extremely slowly by using it's front legs to drag the rear. The tail seems to twitch nervously every so often. The Gecko was moving fine this morning. The Gecko's abdomen area seems larger than normal, there were crickets available for them to eat. It also has it's mouth open fairly wide quite a bit. I have attached a picture, not sure if it shows anything of use. Any help/suggestions would be graetly appeciated.

Thanks

I think this disease is from a definciency of calcium. It sounds like yours is pretty bad. Your best bet would be to take her to the vet and see if you can treat it.

Thanks for your quick response. Do you know if it is normal for the symptoms for this to come on quickly, the gecko was moving around quickly this morning with no noticeable probelms with it's hind legs. Both of the Geckos have regular consumption of Calcium supplement. Thanks again, I will attempt the vet route.

I agree with Bradley. Your gecko has the same symptoms my leo had when it got MBD(metabolic bone disease), except her front legs werent able to move. She died shortly after getting it, but I think she had a pretty severe case of it. She got it because all her calcium was going to the eggs and she didnt get enough for herself(even though she had a dish and dusted food). It can be treated though. I would advise going to the vet and getting a treatment for it. Good Luck!!
