My leo is gay...?

briank Nov 10, 2003 03:01 AM

I have two females, and one male. My male hates both of the females, and will actually attack to kill... Not payful nibbles, but a full blown brawl. I really want to have babies but I think my male is gay...I've put both females in and he attacked both and one actually got hurt. The other fought with him, and neither of them won, but I had to seperate the two. Right now the two females are together, and the male is again, by himself because he is being gay

What can I do?

Maybe the females aren't ready to breed right now and he's just frustrated?

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

I think the problem is within the females and not the male. The females are not ready to breed (like the other person said) or they are not really females and you have been cheated out of some money. Make sure that you have got their sexes right before you go with them together any longer. Seperate one of the females from the male and see how just two of them interact, it may just be stress from the three of them. Good luck

Just kidding, it is probally because it is not breeding season.
As someone else said, make sure they are all the type of sex, you think they are. Also, maybe you have a "hot" female (hot meaning incubated at a high temp), but this is highly unlikely.

hm, i checked the sexes myself...the two females are really females, and the male is a male, and he just gay.

Maybe if you get 2 tanks, and put the females in one, and the male in the other so than they can see each other. He may realize the females are no threat to him.
Or you can put one or both females in a critter cage of a reasonable size, and put it in the tank with the male he will eventually realize the females are no threat to him.

I think as a good leo owner you should be supportive to his being gay. I would put some rainbows around in his cage and maybe some pink triangles to show your support. I would also see if you can find some other breeders that have gay leos and get them together. Wouldn't be so cool if they could have a parade or something like that! The most important thing is to let him know that you love him no matter if he is straight or gay.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

Has he actually cuased any injuries to the females? Has he bred before?

My novice males often refuse to take a hint and can get rather violent with the females early in the season. I house them all together year round, but have lots of hides. After a while he learns to understand "no" and the females who don't want to breed run to the hides when he rattles his tail My females at the worst, have only sustained minor abrasions.

I do have a "gay" female. After laying eggs for 6 years she decided she is a lesbian. I can't house her with a male because they treat her like one and she sustained some deep lacerations when I tried to after her "change in orientation". She has developed bulges and she "breeds" with her girl friends, but all the eggs they lay are duds.
