new crested owner

Zeus Nov 10, 2003 08:06 AM

just wanted to introduce myself. i am the proud new owner of a baby crested gecko. he is so cute. have a couple of questions. i cant tell if he is eating or not. i am feeding him the trex crested gecko food and baby food. do they have a good sense of smell? how does he know it is there in the dish. i put a little on my finger and he licked it off. how do i show him where it is? also how fast do they grow? want to be able to handle him a little bit but he is so small that i dont want to hert him and i sure dont want him to drop his tail. well thanks for the help ahead of time. take care.

Check some of the other posts in here. Put him in a smaller cage...give only small amounts of food on a dish so that you can see where he's been eating...Mine's going on 3 months old now and although I haven't seen him eating out of the dish in front of me, he's gaining weight and size. I was stressed about it at first myself. If you cup your hand in front of him in the direction you anticipate he'll jump, you can get some reasonably pleasurable interaction going with him. Mine has no problem jumping on my hand. They have a cool way of jump...sit...jump...sit. Not the paniced need to escape that the iguanids have. I always keep my reptile handling brief. When you do it for too long, you let your guard down and that's when mistakes happen.
