cage builing

dmac Nov 10, 2003 09:32 AM

I have more time than money. Is melamine better than polyurathened wood? Is flexwatt really that difficult to do yourself? I've heard about Kane heat pads, but if I could build the heat in the floor (boaphile style), cleaning would be easier. Dmac

Hey Dmac,

Hope this will help you in your decision .

Melamine im sure you know is VERY heavy , while it does make cleaning tasks easy it also can be prone to water damaged if not properly sealed in the joints or corners. What type of toolsdo you have at your disposal for building a cage ? I build custom wood cages and also offer melamine to those who want to save $ in there cages . But when i build wood cages i use Laminate to cover the floor with , theis is the same product that is on most countertops. Its very durable and unlike melamine it will not scatch as easy to allow water/ urinates to impregnate the the melamine board and cause unsightly swelling etc. if you would like somemore info on this feel free to drop me a email ok .

Thanks, Alan! I have a drill, sabre saw, and a Home Depot that will cut for me. So Laminate is the stuff, hunh? How many coats and do I just do the floor and sides, or the whole cage?

He is talking about sheets of formica like you use on kitchen countertops. You glue it onto the wood.I make 4 foot boa cages with it.And it makes very sweet shoebox racks.Email me if you want to see a photo or two.Brad
