Females can lay infertile eggs without being with a male. I am not sure if there are any reasons for this but I know it happens. If you think your female might be carrying eggs look down a bit through the forums about egg laying. It will tell you all you need to know about whether she might be carrying and how to prepare a nesting bucket for her!

Hope this helps!

i have a 1 year old female nosey be that just layed a few eggs this past weekend and has never been bred. there has been a complication(after laying 8 eggs she became egg bound)and she needed to have a "C" section done today. i have ended up with 27 eggs. if you think she may have eggs in her, fertile or not, take her to the vet and have an XRAY done to confirm. i'll go one step further, something i should have done. IF YOU THINK SHE HAS EGGS CHANGE HER DIET AND SUPPLEMENT SCHEDULE. SHE WILL NEED MORE CALCIUM AND SHE SHOULD GET IT EVERY OTHER DAY ALONG WITH HER FOOD. my emphises on this is because of what lily(my female) and i have gone though this past few days AND more importantly one of the beliefs is that egg binding is at least partially do to lack of calcium.

no question is a dumb question, better safe then sorry.

I don't know if I agree with your egg binding due to just lack of calcium. I have been giving my female ambanja calcium everyday for the past four months and she is still egg bound. I think this clutch may be screwed up just because it is her third from one breeding (she was bred in may). The 7 eggs she has popped out were all messed up, two weren't very well calcified, the rest were calcified but deformed. I would also say to give a gravid female calcium daily, not D3 daily but just plain calcium, then a calcium supplement with D3 once a week. Also you should be feeding your female a good diet before you breed them. They are forming the eggs before they breed and the better you feed them the better off the future eggs will be. This is just my opinion and what Ive learned from breeders so if I am wrong please correct me.
