I am giving a speach and would like to know some good links on both laws against reptile ownerships and I once saw a good site on solmenalla *sp* but lost it it even had percentage of solm. in other things such as our poutry. Anyways if anyone has any good ideas on where to look for either of these let me know within the next couple of days thanx.

You may want to look at Gloucester's exotic animal code.

Just a note - one thing I try to do when doing my education programs is to down play this salmonela hyper fear that exist. It is already played up far to much - posted in zoos, etc.

I try to explain where the reputation comes from (back when turtles were in every "dime" store and tons of people had them - feeding them meat, keeping them in those small containers not properly filtered, not keeping the water clean, etc. etc. hense why we now have the laws. The other large reported cause of sal. is the wild caught shipments (primarily iguanas) where 100s of animals are crated and shipped with half dieing off and rotting - you get the picture.

Overall if people get a healthy animal and practice good hygiene there is little risk of Salmonella - more risk at some common resterants (but they call it food poisoning - sounds better - right!). So help dispell the hyper fear and share practical sense. Thanks!

Good Point. When I do educational talks, i try to explain that people know about cooking chicken, but most people are not aware of proper handling of reptiles. I am also using this agrument with trying to ban reptile prizes at carnival games. You just need to explain that reptile people aren't afraid of salmonella, but giving reptiles to idiots causes problems.

That is what my speach is about. I am dispelling the myth and fears of having reptiles and persuading people to suporrt reps ownership.
