Info for Ruggero....

I told you I'd let you know about my friend's rhino viper that was treated for rhabdias. It was treated with intracoelomic injections of levamisole.
I don't know the dose that was used although I've read the dose is 5-10mg/kg.
Unfortunately this was a fresh import that came in with severe respiratory illness and didn't make it so I'm not sure how effective this treatment was in getting rid of the rhabdias.

Worm egg counts in my Spilotes are now lower and the animal has gained weight and doing well.
It had always diarrhea, but Metronidazol, once, at a dosage of 50mg/kg had stopped this diarrhea.
I think Panacur at 100mg/kg is working, maybe slowly, but i think the worm burden of Rhabdias is now really lower, compared
to the day I received the snake.
I will continue with Panacur once weekly: Spilotes are very closely related to Drymarchon, and I fear that Ivermectin can kill this kind of snakes.
The Spilotes with coccidia were treated for five days with TMT-SMS (Bactrim) and the oocists were not so many, but were still there.
I've then given Clazuril 5 mg/kg, and I've the impression that in one animal (which had Caryospora) no more oocysts are passed.
The other animal with Eimeria had very few oocysts in the last slide, and I will see if Clazuril has killed comletely the remaining coccidia.
Clazuril is very safe, and in Italy it was successfully used in Turtles with coccidia...will see.

Thanks

Ruggero
