HELP !! Egg bound Leo...

Bethstang Nov 10, 2003 12:53 PM

I have a approx. 8 month old female albino leo that is egg bound. I can see the eggs when I turn her over. She is not eating, has a bloated belly, and has some diarrhea. She is still active. What can I do for her? And should I force feed her? if so, with what? I now I should probably take her to a vet. but I am a vet. tech. and hope to treat her myself if possible. Our vets don't treat reptiles but I am going to get in contact with a friend of mine that is a reptile vet. Just wanted to know what I could do in the mean time for her.

Thanks,
Beth

Okay.. I definitly could be wrong.. I really hope someone could correct me on this, but I think that setting your Leo in some warm water and very gently rubbing her belly downward may help.. Gosh, I remember hearing a good way to help this, but.. I can't remember it right off. You could try this, but please.. remember I am not sure. Hope this helps a little.

ok..you can do that but i wouldnt suggest rubbing the leos belly if it has eggs this can really stress her out and do not force feed her this only make her even more stressed just make a humid hide for her on the warm side or on top of a heat pad in time she will lay her eggs it is very normal for a gravid leo to stop eating when there egg bound so dont worry and do not handle her untill she lays them

Have the eggs been visible for more than a couple of weeks? Is she small? Has she not had enough calcium supplementation?

Fill your bathtub with the hottest water you could get from the tap. The bathroom should be like a sauna (almost).. Put something in that will not float (bricks), on that you put a petbox (for example) with your leo in.. Close the door & leave her alone for a couple of hours..

That´s how it worked for one of my girls..
Good luck & hope this helps..
