new vet?

jovcham Nov 10, 2003 06:27 PM

I Just posted about my cham that gets so stressed when his cage changes that he gets sick. I took him to the vet the first time but the vet wont do anything about it because he's getting better by the time take him. He is the only vet in my area that advertizes they handle reptiles. There are a few other vets that say they can do them but they dont specilize in reptiles. Should I try one of them since my vet does not want to do anything? Could it really be an underlying problem?

Did you see my response to your earlier post? There might not be much to do, and an inexperienced vet who gives you an unneeded antibiotic out of ignorance could cause a lot of more problems. I'd review all my husbandry, supplements, gutloads, diet and lighting to see if there might be a hidden problem there instead.

My husbandry is perfect in every way. there is not underlying problem there. I have done ALOT of research on every aspect of veileds and panthers.
just a review
2.5x2.5x6 all screen cage.
heat lamp in right top corner alittle above cage where he cant burn his beautiful casque
no uv because he gets FL sun outside all day
I have inside uv for when it gets cold
combo fake vines large and small,nd pothos
crickets dusted with mineral "o" 3x's a week
wax worms and mealworms on weekends for treats
crickets are gutloaded with vite all before feeding
he is very rarely handled
just got mister hooked up this past week, use to mist 3 times a day, once for 15min. with warm water only.
driper going half the day
Waterfall for humidity that is taken out and cleaned everyother day.
Hmmm hope I did not forget anything...isnt he cute and again he's looking almost 100% as of today.

It's your chameleon so you can do as you please. If the first vet felt nothing he could/should do then that's his choice.
Curious though, if this other vet comes to the same conclusion then what??

I really dont know there is anything I can do. like I said he gets better. I'm at a loss. I've read 5 different books, done tons of online research and ask this forum if anyone has had this problem before. no one seems to have ever herd of anything like it or they just have not posted. what puzzles me most is NOTHING else stresses him at all. The only thing I guess I can do is try not to ever move anything in his cage.

He's lucky he's so darn cute and can get away with giving me this headache.
