Need Info On stargazers disease.. beardies with wobbly necks....

Sarahbeth Nov 10, 2003 07:01 PM

Does anyone have more info on stargazers disease?
Two of my beardies started with the loss of balance thing the other day. They are fine otherwise only they have trouble with moving their necks, its causing them to have trouble hunting as they cant keep their necks from wobbling. this is some scary stuff. The two in question were born in may and are two of the more healthy babies. They just started doing this out of the blue. Can anyone give me more info? I never heard of this until a post on live journal where someone elses beardie showed these symptoms. I was told to go here for more info. Please guys any info would help i dont know anything about this illness its news to me. I want to know if they have it and what can be done to save them. Thanks

Sarah

with stargazer you usually see stiffening in the neck muscles so the dragons head is forced and locked in an upward position. Both can be neurological based and there are many things that can cause that, from minor problems like lack of a vitiman b or calcium, the inability to absorb them, genetic (too late to be showing up in yours if that) viral, bacterial infections or injury.

Can you give a bit more info? How are they house? With other dragons? What size are others they are with is with others? What are you feeding them? What supplements and how often? what greens do they eat regularly? Have you added any new dragons to your colony? HAve you attended any shows and where? Has anyone come over and handled them that also have dragons or seen seeing/handling other dragons?

Sorry for all the questions, but it helps paint a better picture of what might be going on
