Unusual Food Source

turtlesong Nov 10, 2003 08:53 PM

Just wondering if canned silkworm larvae, which are eaten in Korea, would be of any benefit for Bullfrogs? I'm having problems finding "live" food sources now that winter is coming on, and the petstores here sell nothing but worms.

As for worms, are they a safe bet when feeding frogs? My frog was recently poisoned and I'm afraid it might've been the worms, but I have some turtles and they're eating the same and haven't gotten sick.

In case of lack of live food, what's the best menu for these little eating machines? I've dangled fish in front of them and they've gone for it, but my resources are limited. Baby mice I can't stomach as much as they can.

Really? No pet stores near you sell crickets?

Not that I know of. Not even meal worms. I'm in Korea, which is a protectionistic country and very strict. Novelty is not a catchphrase here, if you know what I mean.

I have to make the food look a live if I wish to feed the frog anything of nutritious value, so I'm looking for foods like these to attach to fish line which he can tear off and get some

Ah, didnt know that you were in Korea. How are the silk worms processed? Are they cooked? They do sell canned crickets and such for herp food. They may be worth a try.
