My BP feels a bit...mushy???

JLJ2018 Nov 10, 2003 10:03 PM

I haven't had a boid in YEARS so I might just not be used to having one, but he seems a bit...mushy or something. I think I might just be used to the tight body structure of a colubrid and for that reason the BP feels soft, but just wanted to check in and see if any of you have any thoughts.

I've only had him a few weeks and I got him from a pet store (not the best thing to do I know) but fell in love with his pattern and couldn't resist him. According to his feeding chart, they've only fed him six times since June. He's eaten a hopper once a week for me just fine. Just wanted to give a bit of feeding history in case that helps. Thanks!

You didn't mention his size or age. I would, however, recomend feeding more than a hopper a week. I'd move him up to full size mice at least. He can do it.

Good luck with him!

Not sure of his age, but he's about 14-15 inches long. I'm just feeding hoppers right now because that's what he was on at the store.

He's not getting a big enough meal. He can handle a full size mouse without a problem. A snake can eat an animal up to 3 times it's size in diameter. My Ball is about 2 feet long and eating large rats.

You have to make sure that the meal isn't too big nor too small.
When my ball was that size I started him off eating adult mice. I fed him about a half dozen feedings of those and then took him straight to small rats.

I'll bump him up...I've got like 3 frozens left in the freezer. I'll see if he'll eat two at a time then just toss the leftover and go with adult mice. Thanks!
