Blood red question and rack system question.

poisonfrog420 Nov 10, 2003 10:14 PM

I saw a baby normal corn at my local pet store. It looks like a blood red because it has a gray head and there is only a little bit of black on the belly. Are there many normal corns like this? I really like the adult blood reds and have been thinking about getting a pair, does any one know who has some nice unrelated ones?

My second question (well set of questions) is about rack systems. I keep making some out of plywood and have had 2 snakes and a leo escape form them Is there any one on line that sells nice ones that are not super expensive? If so, please post a web page. I would be really interested if they will also put the heat tape in for me. Thanks for your help, Jake.

Not sure about the snake but for about 5 bucks you can go to walmart and get a clear tupperware style shoebox with a lid.Just put some small airholes in the side.....Paul.

I really like rack systems, but I wouldn't trust a hatchling in one. That 1/4" to 1/8" gap between the box and shelf can be just enough room for a little snake to squeeze out. I keep my littlest snakes in critter keepers till they get enough size on them to go in the racks. Currently I've got an Animal Plastics rack and a shoe box Boaphile rack. I'm very pleased with the Animal Plastics rack but I did have a heck of a time finding the right size tubs for it. I still haven't used the Boaphile rack, but it's well made and very light weight.
Here's a few URLs to check out...

The snake could be an outcrossed bloodred, or could be just a weird normal. When bloods are bred to normals, the babies can have a sort of bloodred apearance but would have some checkering on the belly, and maybe not be a "perfect" red as an adult. I got a pair of unrelated bloods from Kathy Love just a couple months ago, and they are very nice looking already. You can try her, or South Mountain, or any of the sponsors of this forum. I'm not sure how late in the year they still have blood hatchlings available. But it's worth a shot

I built my own rack out of plywood and it worked great, but I didn't put any tiny hatchlings in it. The trick was making sure the boxes fit perfect between the shelves. Or by using lids on the tubs, which is what I do for new hatchlings. I would love a nice pre-built rack system, but on my budget, trial and error self-building works best
