lily is back from her surgery

compasscreek Nov 10, 2003 10:27 PM

this weekend i pretty much did nothing but sit and cared for my female nosey be, lily. she had become egg bound after laying 8 eggs. we had give her three doses of ocytosin and she was able to lay three more but her condition was getting worst, to the point that i could lay her on her back in my hand! we called our vet at home and asked what we should do and he told us that if we were to take her to the hospital they would just give her pedilite. he said we could do the same at home, so that is what we did every 2 hours and twice a day liquid calcium. our vet told us to stop the oxitosin for now and he would see us in the morning. my wife and i talk about what should be done if "this or that" happened. in the morning my wife took lily to the vet and it ws decided to save her she would need a C section to remove the eggs. my wife was advised that surgery was not with out risk. she was also asked if we wanted lily spayed as well and my wife left that decision up to our vet(we have a VERY good doctor for our chameleons!) in the end lily didn't need to be spayed and the doctor removed 16 more eggs for a total of 27 eggs that are suppose to infertile. i am incubating them as i should if they are fertile figuring that if they are dudes they will shrival or mold. lily is back home and ALOT thinner! my wife took before and after pictures it's really amazing! and although this is not a postive experience i am glad(wrong word) it happened so that i had the experience and hopefully can learn from it.
