In your opinion...

I am looking to get a chameleon in the near future and was just wondering what your guys opinions were. I want a colorful cham so i was thinking a panther or a nice veiled, but i have heard from a friend that panthers are mean and love to bite. what is the agression differences between the panther/veiled/jackson? which do you guys own and do you enjoy keeping them?

i have 4 panthers(1.1 sambava, a female nosy be, and a nosey be/ambanja cross)and they are not at all prone to bite at you. my female is fiest at first but once she is on my hand she is just fine. my cross is TOTALLY hand tame, althogu he doesn't like to be picked up, he rather you coax him onto your hand. he is like a puppy! my male sambava is the same as my nosey be girl, skittish at first my just fine afterward. and my femalke sambava is fine as well. it just takes a couple weeks for them to come around and realize you are not a threat. i am getting another male sambava in a few weeks and in april, may or june hopefully a male ambilobe. if you want my biased opinion i would get a male panther. they are colorful, have personality, and are relatively easy to care for(15 minutes a day and a weekly cage cleaning).

I agree. all of my chameleons are nice with the exception of one male ambanja. My veileds and other panthers are great. I have herd that veileds get more aggressive than panthers though.

Just remember that chams, like many herps are individuals. There can be an evil one for every nice one. It doesn't seem to be predictable, hereditary, or based on how much handling they get. Some are just pissy and some are not. Either way, don't expect any cham to want much handling or sharing space with any other animals.

i have never had panthers before so i wouldn't know about there personalities. but i have had several jackson's and several veiled all raised from babies. the jackson's were very docile and good tempered throughout and the veiled were not
