tokay eggs

throatoyster Nov 10, 2003 11:12 PM

I have a pair of Tokays and they JUST layed eggs (2). They are glued to a pretty large piece of wood in the cage, and I don't want to remove them. I was thinking i could just take the whole stick and somehow use a rubbermaid container big enough for it to fit in somehow. what is the best way to incubate/care for them? Any suggestions would be helpful... thanks!

Just leave them in place. If climatic conditions fit the tokays needs, the females always find good places for their eggs. Adults guard eggs and babies and you should not quit the chance to watch the fascinating family life of tokays. Just slightly mist the vicinity of the eggs daily. Its not too detrimetal if the eggs get moist from time too time.
In the tank most eggs will hatch after 90-200 days-depending on the ambient conditions. So be patient.

On the eggs. If you decide to move them, make sure you do not rotate or flip them. This will drown the embryo. I cover my whiteline (exactly like tokay eggs)with a cup with some air holes and some moist vermiculite. If you keep more than one female together, she may eat the other females eggs. Here is a pic of my whiteline egg cup.
