Help! crickets

bigdee Nov 11, 2003 10:18 AM

Ok I bred some crickets and had the eggs in a small maybe 3"x6" clear container. I used the leo geckos tank on the warm side to icubate the cricket eggs and the eggs soon hatched. I thought it will be best to just keep them their for a week or 2 to get a little bigger because usually when I transfer them to the holding bin alot seem to dry out and die. Well I left the lid cracked open just a little bit for air flow, now most of the babies got out and are all in the leos tank. How do I get them out of the leos tank being they are so small, Do I just let them stay in there and grow a little first or is it something I can do to get them out now.

Ok, here's what you do. It was kinda unlucky for you to have pinheads all over the cage, and you have no other choice but to remove them all. Take out all the stuff from your leo's cage, including the leo. Leos don't need too many furnishings in there, so this is very easy to do. Once the cage is empty, tilt the cage on one side so that all the crix are being gathered into one corner. Once they're all compacted, use a toilet tube kind to scoop them out.

no I didnt try because I was saying that my substrate is I think reptisand so if I tilt the tank I was thinking I might kill them. I want to remove them and put them in another bin I dont want to kill them.

Well, scoop out the substrate first. Make sure that the scoops don't contain any crix. When very little amount of sand is left, it's fine to tilt the tank, and drag the pinheads into a corner. It won't kill the crix.
