How does this look,... any suggestions, need expert opinions...

On the bottom of your page, you will see a set of plans... It is for a 72"x30"x24" cage. I only have a small room and want to save space. So i will be stacking a 4'x4'x18" cage on top built of 1/2" plywood and has a false bottom made of glass 4'x2'. I want to make sure the big cage could hold the little on (somewhat heavy) with not stress/flex. I am in need of an expert opinion. Figure A in the frame work, which i would also like to ask the best way to connect them is (without metal conecters. I do not want metal in cage) Fiqure B is the cage done except for doors and dam. and Figure C is the other cage on top (not quite to scale) do you think it will hold?

Thanks
Neo

PS any other suggesions appreciated!

You cannot post tripod pictures on this site, and when I went to tripod, I couldn't see them either.

From what you described, I think you would need some significant reinforcement in the framework of the bottom cage to avoid flexing.

Also, for that sized cage, it is my opinion that you should investigate the costs of just biting the bullet and buying a Neodesha or Vision cage. Large cages are a pain, for many reasons. At least those brands of cage are light enough to be able to be manouvered at that size, and a heck of a lot easier to keep clean.

Go to and upload your pix directly to uploadit.org they give you a link then all you have to do is cut and paste it here like you do with other pic hosts, only this one works...

I priced it and this will cost 75$ for wood (maybe 100$) and labour is free as with the tools i can use in the schools shop. The glass/adrilic for the doors will be free. Even for payinbg for glass to it is cheaper that 536$ USD ( i am canadian) plus tax and shipping. And as well as being so much cheaper. I can custom build it for my baby.

You said 1x1 studs? That is awfully small lumber for the frame of a 6ft cage. Even if you meant 1x2.. still small. Although, the wood sides will make the cage rigid. You could use 2x2s with dowel connectors. You'll need a dowling jig and some skill..

You know, a 6ft cage is huge for a corn. How about a 4ftx2ftx2ft cage just made from plywood and no frame? Easier, plenty of room. Or better yet, get a cage from www.herpcages.com or PrecisionCaging.com or Boaphile.com or Neodesha Plastics and put it on top of the one you built.

Insead of dowelling could I predrill and screw the framming together and glue it. And I really could care less about the size of cage in ratio to the snake size. I would actually build bigger if i could! lol i may figure something else out.
