I am really becoming intrested in smaller speies of python lately and was wondering what are some good ones to look for also I have heard that macklots stay small and then I have heard they get big, my question is how big do they get? Thanks for any help/feedback!

For small python species, you've got some great options within the Antaresia genus (this includes spotted and Children's pythons). I've got links to websites, a recommended reading list, and care info at my website, www.thereptileshed.com.

they stay small, but can be a little nippy in their cage, but usually are good once out.

Hi David,
It seems everyone wants to steer you away from macklots! My 4.5 year old breeders are about 8-9 feet for the female, 7-8 feet for the male. They are an ideal pet python if you can wait them out until they grow out of their defensive juvenile stage. My adults are some of the calmest and easiest handling snakes I have. I'd say they are much easier to work with than Colombian boas. Just remember to make your initial contact with a hook to shift them out of feeding mode, which they seem to be in virtually all the time.
