Blue Beauty

This guy is right at 9 ft. now and thats no exaggeration. He is not even 5 yet either. The bottom rim of the round hide box right behind him that he is leaning on is a foot from rim to rim for size comparison.
Lucily he is calm most of the time because you would not beleive the strike range of this guy when he gets pissed off.
These guys breed longer than any species I have ever bred before. He and his mate stayed locked up for 14 straight hours one time 2 years ago. I think I was a little jealous.LOL

I had heard blues can really strike when they want to. Mine is just a yearling so he isn't ready to make me flinch yet. Thanks for posting the pic.

Thanks Terry. If my adults see you coming, sometimes they will decide to get an attitude and beleive me it's hard not to flinch if they strike. Once I get them out of the cage they are tame as can be as adults. Their attitude is part of what I like so much about them. They keep me on my toes so to speak. This female mocquards seems to like to strike at me sometimes even after she is out. I can be holding her and she will just turn around out of the blue and strike. Sometimes she goes for the face but I have dodged her so far. She is about 7ft so she can be a handful but quite fun to hold. Not a snake for everyone.LOL

I think blue beauties are one of, if not the best looking, of all the taeniura. They get huge too, which is the main reason I don't have any. Had a pair of freisi that ate me out of house and home once. That snake is well over 100 inches long, way over 250 cm. It's close to a record. Did you ever try to weigh it? Might be a record by weight too. I have to stick to smaller snakes because of my space constraints, etc, but I think the blue beauts are pretty awesome.

Hey Terry. I haven't ever weighed him. I do wonder how large they can really get. I think a lot of it depends on the bloodline or locality they are from. I have known where people who have feed the heck out of them and they just dont get as large. I know another guy that breeds blues, I think his name is Scott Hammock but I am not sure but they had posted before that they had one or more that were around 9ft. It's just like my mocquards, the female I posted a picture of above is around 7ft but a male I have has not grown anyways near the size she did in a similar amount of time and feeding schedule. Oh well, who knows. Later, Randy Whittington

Randy, like you I think size has to do with what part of their range the snakes come from and the environmental conditions in that area. The ancestry of your snake is probably from an area that is very condusive to growth. It would be interesting to know what the conditions are like there. I think the blues come from montane areas in n. Thailand and surrounding countries and Mocquards come from tropical areas of N. Vietnam and s.e. China, if I'm remembering right. We were just talking about Mandarin Rats from the mountainous areas of N. Vietnam, and they get a very large size, like near five ft. It's an interesting subject anyway. Let us know when those guys reproduce TC.

He and his mate had a clutch this year for the third year in a row with 18 eggs of which 17 hatched perfectly healthy. His mates feeding response has been the most aggressive since laying this year that it has ever been so she has great body weight so I am curious to see how many eggs she lays next year. RW
