Possible sick frog?

Spar May 30, 2003 10:55 PM

I currently have 3 sipiwlini tinc's that are about 1-1/2 years old. One of them has started to turn a darker color while thinning around the waste. The other 2 are still fat. I would ordinarily be very concerned, but this frog is eating tons of food still. She is still very active around the tank showing no signs of shyness. Still very socialable to the other frogs and all. I will try to get some pictures up of her if this would help in the analysis, but should I think about getting this checked out or am I just being a little to "parentish"?

To help in the thoughts, here are some recent "events":
1) She escaped when moving her to my new house and jumped around on the carpet for about 1 minute.

2) As said in the last post, she is now in a new house, but same tank with all the same plants and setup.

3) In the process of moving I stayed at a Motel with her (and the other 2) in a plastic shoe box. On the bottom I used a soaked (with RO water) paper towel that probably had too much water in it. The room got way too cold that night, causing them to go into some kind of shock, and in the morning was pretty sure all 3 were dead, but luckily was wrong. It took them about 5 hours in a warm environment to show any signs of life. And keep in mind the other 2 are in perfect (at least from my view) condition now. My point being that they were all put into a overly stressful situation.

Hey Cliff,

I noticed that you have a 0.2.1 ratio of these sips in your viv. This is just a shot in the dark, but maybe the frog that seems sick is being stressed by the other two, possibly causing metabolic problems. I is interesting that the frog IS feeding. That makes me think that there may possibly be a parasite present. Again, this is all hypothetical and I might not even be close

I hadn't even considered the possibility of Companion Stress yet. The "1" of the 0.2.1 is more of just me being in Denial
I am 90% sure it is another female (0.3), but I am still hoping that I am wrong. They do not fight, are not territorial of eachother as far as I have seen. Then again, anytime I walk into the room they all jump into their feeding spot and beg, so seeing them in 'privacy' is another step. They all sleep in totally different areas of the tank.

I have to take my dog to the vet soon for a check up anyway, so I may take in a fecal sample for them to look into. It is definately odd that this is happening to the one who escaped.

Thanks for your response.
