Longevit y & Mating

spycspider Nov 11, 2003 04:16 PM

Hi,

What's the record for the oldest painted turtle known? What are the general longevities in captivity? I've had mine (C. p. picta) for 12 years now but he still seems fine. I recently acquired a female for him in hopes that he'll be able to fulfill his male turtle destiny. Is he too old for mating purposes? Thanks.

Johnny

They can live past 60 in the wild (Congdon, et al., Experimental Gerontology 38 (2003) 765-772.)
