Tweaking a Humidifiers capacity???

ttreptile1 Nov 11, 2003 05:01 PM

Was wondering if anyone with a small room sized humidifier has ever tweaked it to allow for more water capacity and if so, what the ramifications were? I recently picked one up at Walmart and it has a 2.5 gal capacity and runs dry quick. Although I only need it in the Winter when its dry out, I would like to extend the change time maybe adding a 5 gallon water bottle to it or something like that. Any ideas or plans out there?

Here's a brute-force way to do it:

Drill large holes all the way around the humidifier water basin, and sink the whole thing (except for the top part with the fan of course) in a larger bin holding more water. You may need a weight to keep it in place (or use silicon adhesive to fix it down.)
