Calico Retic questions

toddbecker Nov 11, 2003 06:54 PM

I was just wondering if anyone would clarify some questions about the calico morph. I have read that it is typical recessive gene. Also read some where that it was a sex determined trait that only appeared on females. One last thing I heard and would like to clarify is that it is an age dependant trait and doesn't show itself in juveniles but appears as the snake ages. Any one that could clarify this information for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Todd

According to some people they obtain the colour as they age. However, I have heard of 2 calicos, both female which were caught as almost white snakes, and are now very dark, with odd speckles. Why do they change back again? And why do they even change in the first place?
