East TN Reptile Nov 11, 2003 10:00 PM

At present, my male BCT has went 24 days straight! I'm sure he has to a break when I wasn't around, or maybe @ night. The female is looking like she's starting to bigger I have more women for him also.
Would you
A) Remove the male & place him with more females?
B) Leave him in, to asure she will hopefully
become gravid ?
C) Pull him out , hopes she's gravid, & let him work on the other ladies ?
I'm gonna pull him out UNLESS you can see of a reasons
Thanks for ANY imput....................
Thanks,
Dave

I've read and found in my breedings when the female is done with him she will stop producing phero's and he will lose interest. -Dino

If it's important to you that she becomes gravid I would leave the male in with her. He will continue to breed until just before she ovulates. She is getting bigger because her egg follicles are maturing in response to his courting and breeding. If you remove him now you will interrupt this cycle and she may never ovulate. Or if she does ovulate the ova will not be fertilized by a recent batch of sperm (a possible reason for high amounts of slugs.)
Your boas know what they are doing...he is still breeding her because her ova has not yet matured enough to ovulate....and when she does ovulate it is important that the ova are met with a fresh batch of sperm she has stored from an earlier mating for high fertility. When her ova is completely mature a hormone will trigger her attracting pheromones to shut off and he will lose interest in her. She will then ovulate.

I'm doing both cases now. I have a red group that got my Amazon basin Colombian(??) and I saw the ovulation and the post ovulation shed. I really think it is safe to pull it out but I'm going to find out here in a few months.

Amazon basin Colombian? Bcc? Any pics?
The only ones I've seen were a few photos by herpetologist Dr. Ian Stephan and one by herpetoligist Bill Lamar.
