it is ok every once in a while...30 is ALOT to give t a uro and i would say only give about 6 mealies at the most per week. I give my guys one superworm every two weeks, and sometimes a waxie. You really have to watch and make sure they still are eating their greens. 30 i would say is wayy to much, but yes you ca feed some oncea week and they will be fine...remember that 1% of their diet is insects.
Good luck! It is fun t watch them eat bugs hehe, especialy since i have 100's of supers on hand at all times, i just started breeding the mealies, i have a bunch of beetles just waiting for the baby mealies....

yeah u can give them like 2-3 superworms a week , in the wild i know they must eat alot more insects then that but to be on the safe side just give like 2-3 a week, just seeing how crazy they go over them i know in the wild everytime they see a bug they'll eat it, i also heard they grow faster if u feed them some everyweek like 2-3 always that 30 was way too much and only once every week

Hi,
Yes it is ok, but as said previously, they shouldn't make up more than 1%. I never feed mine any living things, it's very disgusting and disturbing. But, besides this, I just wanted to post what I had read (sorry I can't remember the site) about uros in the wild: Current research, done on ornates, has documented that these uros have lived their whole lives without ever eating an insect, or in otherwords, they lived vegetarian lives in the wild. They believe this must be true for any uro that can find enough greens/seeds. Of course, any starving uro would eat a bug (or anything edible for that matter) but I thought this was interesting research - and made me feel alot better about keeping vegetarian uros

"I never feed mine any living things, it's very disgusting and disturbing"

I hate to be a wise a$$ but those juicy leaves of bok choy and that bunch of turnip and mustard greens are indeed "living things"

I've always been amused at the assumption that so called lower forms of life like those in the plant world are dismissed by many as "non living things" incapable of sensory feelings like pain and the will to survive.

Actually, the answer *might* be yes, though I don't know if it's the same as what we would consider pain. There's been research done on the subject. Not only do plants react to trauma, but they react to someone THINKING about doing them harm (like setting fire to a leaf). Check out the Secret Life of Plants by Thompkins. Kind of an odd thing, and maybe a crock, but interesting!

Hi,
I don't dismiss plants, I know that they were once alive and feeling. It's actually amazing the things plants are capable of (communicating with each other and so forth), but one has to eat something. The plant is already dead, and in the case of some fruits it isn't, so it isn't disgusting to feed it to the uro, or to eat it myself. I wouldn't purposefully go out and "hurt" plants, just as I wouldn't hurt any animal or insect. When I said "living" I meant running around, trying to escape with no hope of ever surviving. It's not fair to the cricket or mealworm, since they don't have a chance...I guess the same could be said for plants, but at least I don't have to watch them struggle for life. I like plants, but I love insects and animals. I could NEVER, and will never, feed a living insect to my uros. That was my point...without having to make a long argument about plants being living. I dont dismiss anything that has a life, but you can't post everything, it's too long and people wont read it, so for the sake of responses I shorten things and hope people don't have to pick at what I have to say.
