How often do completely red colored brown anole show up?

DBZchick7 May 31, 2003 12:07 AM

While vactioning in Florida this spring, I saw two adult male anoles that were completely red not red-headed, not red tinged... I'm talking full-bodied red. And they couldn't change colors the way normal anoles can. (go from light to dark) The could only go from a brick red to a creamier, lighter shade but no where near the transformation of a normal brown. This leads me to believe that there's a hypomelanistic gene working itself here...
I caught one of the males and have kept it successfully for a few months now... and i plan to breed him in due to time to see if his coloration is genetic. But I was wondering how often this reduced black coloration shows up?
A pic is attached but it does absolutely no justic at all... and this is his darker phase. He was caught in West Palm Beach if it means anything to anyone.
Thanks.

Hey, um maybe its a hypo gene randomly appearing or something. about a month ago Jeff from leo-land.net caught a totally red one also. he showed me pics and it looked just like yours. well maybe its just a different species/sub species. i mean theres like 350 right? its pretty neat i must say. ill be showin this to Jeff, he'll be a alot of help.

Well... I think this is just a random hypo gene and not another species because i saw him while still wild courting female browns (that were obviously browns)... and in the place i caught them brown anoles were only anole species prevailent... no greens even.

I'm not sure on that but I know they have brown anoles all over there because I just came back form Florida. I know they have big red dewlaps and the bop there heads but I never seen them all red.
